Booking Guidelines
Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in additional fees being charged to your account.
Décor
- The Real Muskoka Experience will not permit affixing of any décor items to walls, window, doors, carpet, ceiling or furniture by way of tape, putty, nails, and/or staples.
- Confetti, fog machines, bubbles, rice and sequins are not permitted as part of the décor, during a ceremony or by the DJ as part of the dance.
- If the Client plans to involve any décor or hired decorators in their event a meeting between the Client, decorator and Manager must take place. All décor must be fire retardant.
- Manager must be supplied with an approved full list of all décor items that will be brought onto the property.
- Active set up for your event will be arranged with the Manager.
- Candles are not permitted.
Services
- Security personnel have the right to ask any guest to leave the facility if they are deemed to be causing a disturbance or damaging the facility.
- Parking is provided in a municipal parking area located at the front of the Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre. Or at the municipal parking lot directly in front of the Steamship office at 185 Cherokee Lane. All persons parking must adhere to municipal bylaws.
Food Service
- Leftover food and beverages are not permitted to be removed from the premises.
- The RMS Segwun, Wenonah II, and Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre do not permit food or alcoholic beverages to be brought onto the premises without prior authorization from the Manager.
- The RMS Segwun, Wenonah II, and Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre are smoke-free environments. Propane, butane and all other compressed gases are prohibited. For food holding purposes, solid gel heating fuel is allowed.
- All food service must be provided by our in-house caterer unless approved by the General Manager.
- If an alternate caterer has been approved by the manager, an outside catering fees may be applied to events at Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre based on specific needs.
- Food service is payable in full 30 days prior to booked event based on the estimated number of attendees. Guest numbers and menu selections for food service are requested a minimum of 45 days prior to the booked event. Final numbers (including changes) are due no less than 72 hours prior to the booked event. If guest numbers change prior to the 72-hour mark, or after the Client has already paid the full amount, the Client will receive credit or additional charges on the final notice.
Liquor
- The regulations of the Liquor License Act of Ontario will be strictly enforced at all times. We reserve the right to refuse alcohol service to anyone attending the event.
- As per Ontario Liquor Laws, all beverage service will cease 30 minutes prior to the end of an event.
- The Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre does not permit alcoholic beverages to be consumed or brought outside of the building.
- A bar deposit based on the estimated # of guests at 2 drinks per person is due 30 days prior to any private booking with a Host Bar. The Client is charged for bar service based only on consumption and an invoice of the total positive or negative balance will be sent to the Client within 7 business days following the event. All overpayments will be refunded after the event based on actual guest numbers and host bar amounts.
Booking & Billing
- All guests, including members of the Wedding Party and those vendors contracted to the Client must arrange to vacate the facility by the stated time on the contract.
- Any damages done to the RMS Segwun, Wenonah II or Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre as a result of your event will be charged to your account.
- Payment Schedule:
Charter Deposit #1 – 50% due at the time of booking
Charter Deposit #2 – 50% due 90 days prior to the event
Food – Due in full 30 days prior to the event
Bar Deposit – Due in full 30 days prior to the event
- Your booking is considered confirmed upon completion of a signed contract and receipt of initial deposit.
Music/Noise
- On Board Ships: The volume of all live music (amplified) or DJ service will be monitored at all times by the ship’s purser. There are noise restrictions on certain parts of the lakes and the purser will make the request of your service provider to maintain the appropriate sound levels in these areas.
- Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre: Our staff has the right to ensure that a proper sound level for all amplified sound is maintained. Manager/Purser will speak directly with the DJ, and if sound is not turned down to acceptable levels a noise fee will be charged to your account.
Cancellation of Private Cruises
- The Company reserves the right, without liability, to delay, cancel or shorten any cruise whenever in its judgement circumstances make it necessary.
- Initial deposit is non-refundable if customer cancels less than 60 days prior to the booked event.
- Charter fees are non-refundable if customer cancels less than 30 days prior to the booked event.
Did you know?
- The R.M.S. Segwun continues to be recognized by Canada Post as a "Royal Mail Ship" and that mail can be hand-franked or cancelled from the ship as they did more than 100 years ago.
- In 1974, the Segwun was recommissioned by Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau.
- In 1996, the Wanda III Steam Yacht was recommissioned by Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
- The Segwun's coal comes all the way from Kentucky.
- Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre opened in 2006 and celebrates Muskoka's steamship era, grand resorts and hotels and the region's rich boat-building history.
- Wenonah II is Canada's newest passenger vessel combining turn-of-the-century charm with modern conveniences such as air-conditioning and an on board elevator.
- The Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre is home to North America's largest in-water display of antique and classic boats.
- The ship's private label wine is one of the few given permission by the LCBO to be sold in stores throughout Ontario.
- In 2001 and 2002, the Segwun won the award of "Best Large Attraction" by Attractions Canada.
- In 1988, the Segwun won the prestigious "Phoenix Award" presented by the Society of American Travel Writers. Recipients are chosen for their outstanding efforts in preservation and conservation.
- In years past, a steamship purser used to take tickets as passengers boarded. Today, our Purser is responsible for all guest services on board including your dining experience.
- The Segwun used to carry passengers, freight and mail to a variety of ports on the Muskoka lakes before the days of the automobile.
- Each year, the Segwun and Wenonah II host upwards of 30 memorable wedding ceremonies and receptions.
- In recent years the shift to air transport for mail has left only three ships with the right to the prefix; RMS Segwun, which serves as a passenger vessel in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada, RMS St Helena, which serves the island of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic,[9] and RMS Queen Mary 2. QM2 was conferred "RMS" by Royal Mail when she entered service in 2004 on the Southampton to New York route as a gesture to Cunard's history – The RMS Segwun is the oldest Royal Mail Ship in the world.
